Sender reputation (also known as sender score, IP reputation, or domain reputation) is a trust rating that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and email filtering services assign to every entity that sends email. This score reflects the quality and trustworthiness of your email sending practices and directly determines whether your messages are delivered to the inbox, routed to the spam folder, or blocked entirely. Think of it as a credit score for email — a high score opens doors, while a low score closes them.

ISPs calculate sender reputation based on multiple signals: your bounce rate (especially hard bounces), spam complaint rate, engagement metrics like open and click rates, sending volume and consistency, presence on email blacklists, spam trap hits, the age of your sending IP and domain, email authentication setup (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), and the proportion of messages sent to valid versus invalid addresses.
