What the Shopify Integration Does
The Email Verifier by EcomTech Shopify app adds enterprise-grade email verification to your Shopify store checkout and customer registration flows. When a customer enters their email address during checkout, the app verifies it in real-time through our email verifier API before the order is placed. Invalid emails are caught immediately with a friendly error message, while valid emails pass through without any noticeable delay. This prevents fake orders placed with non-existent email addresses, ensures order confirmation and shipping notification emails actually reach your customers, and builds a clean customer database from the very first transaction.
For ecommerce businesses, email is the primary communication channel with customers. Order confirmations, shipping updates, delivery notifications, review requests, and marketing campaigns all depend on having valid customer email addresses. When customers enter incorrect or fake emails at checkout, the entire post-purchase communication chain breaks. Customers do not receive their order details, support tickets increase, and marketing campaigns perform poorly. Our Shopify integration solves this by validating every email at the point of entry. The app is designed for minimal checkout friction with a sub-second verification time, a false positive rate below 0.1%, and clear error messages that help customers correct typos rather than abandoning their cart. Beyond checkout verification, the app includes bulk verification for your existing customer database, customer tagging based on email quality, and integration with Shopify Flow for advanced automation. Shopify Plus merchants get additional features including checkout extensibility support and custom verification rules based on order value or customer history.
Step-by-Step Setup Guide
Install the Shopify App
Visit the Shopify App Store and search for EV Email Verifier. Click Add App and follow the installation prompts to connect it to your Shopify store. The app installs in under a minute and does not require any theme modifications. It works with all Shopify themes and is compatible with Shopify, Shopify Plus, and Shopify Lite plans.
Connect Your Email Verifier by EcomTech Account
After installation, the app opens a setup wizard. Enter your Email Verifier by EcomTech API key to connect your verification account. If you do not have an account, the wizard includes a signup link to create one at our email verifier page with 100 free monthly verifications. The connection is tested automatically and you see a green confirmation once everything is linked.
Enable Checkout Email Verification
Toggle on checkout verification in the app settings. Choose your verification mode: Block Invalid blocks only clearly invalid emails and is recommended for most stores. Block Invalid and Disposable also catches temporary email addresses used for one-time purchases. Strict Mode blocks all non-valid emails including risky and catch-all addresses. Each mode is designed to balance fraud prevention with customer experience.
Configure Account Registration Verification
Enable verification for customer account registration separately from checkout. When turned on, the app verifies emails when customers create accounts on your store. You can configure different strictness levels for registration and checkout. For example, strict verification on registration to prevent fake accounts, but standard verification at checkout to minimize cart abandonment.
Verify Existing Customers in Bulk
Use the Bulk Verify feature in the app to scan your existing customer database. The app processes all customer emails and adds tags to each customer profile based on their verification status. You can then create customer segments in Shopify using these tags. This is especially useful before sending email marketing campaigns to your customer list, ensuring you only email verified addresses.
Review Analytics and Optimize
The app dashboard shows verification analytics including total emails checked, percentage blocked, breakdown by verification status, and trends over time. Use these insights to fine-tune your verification settings. If you see a high rate of blocked emails, consider switching to a less strict mode. If bounce rates on your marketing campaigns remain high, consider increasing strictness. The dashboard also shows credit usage to help manage your verification budget.
